A multidisciplinary group of EPR, technology, finance, and operations specialists dedicated to building South Africa’s leading producer‑owned EPR systems.
With almost five decades in South Africa’s electronics and e‑waste sector, Allan offers producers unparalleled technical, operational, and regulatory expertise. His career spans pioneering PCB design at Marconi, leading electronics divisions and design automation firms, and founding one of the country’s first ISO 14000‑certified e‑waste companies. Allan later headed Sims Recycling Solutions South Africa, building the region’s most experienced electronics recycling team. When Sims exited the global market, he transitioned the operation into RecycleX and went on to establish ATS to help producers navigate the rising complexity of Electronics EPR. Today, he leads a consultancy with a combined 50 years of real‑world recycling and compliance experience—supporting producers with practical guidance and supplying fully producer‑owned EPR plans that put control, transparency, and accountability back in their hands.
Hellen started her career in e-waste
at African Sky in Gauteng. Originally appointed as Environmental Manager, one
of her notable achievements was securing the first ISO 14000 certification at
African Sky. When the company moved to KwaZulu-Natal she was promoted to
General Manager. In addition to being responsible for RecycleX’s compliance
requirements, Hellen runs the day-to-day operations as well as the logistics
requirements which involves moving material from various African countries to
the Ballito site.
Hellen has completed a Postgraduate
Certificate in Leadership and Strategic Management at Coventry University in
the UK and is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute. She is a
founder member of the RecycleX operation, tracing back to its roots as African
Sky. Hellen has 20 years’ experience in the e-waste recycling industry and
excels at people management. Hellen now brings her skill set to the ATS EPR
consultancy arena and assist electronics producers with implementing and
manging their EPR plans.
In her spare time, Hellen enjoys
arts, crafts, PC gaming, snorkelling and powerlifting.
Dennis has spent two decades
at the forefront of South Africa’s electronics recycling and informal-sector
development landscape. As one of the earliest process specialists at WeCare, he
played a central role in designing and manufacturing the original WeCare
container system, his entry point into pioneering ITAD and informal-sector
integration models.
Over the years, Dennis has
developed and tested practical mechanisms to bring informal e‑waste recyclers
into alignment with emerging EPR legislation. Many of these initiatives served
as early proof‑of‑concept programs that informed national implementation
approaches.
With EPR legislation now in
force and producers carrying defined compliance obligations, Dennis applies his
deep operational knowledge to support producers implementing their own EPR
plans under the ATS framework. He specialises in direct engagement with
informal e‑waste collectors, ensuring they are trained, compensated, and
meaningfully included in producer‑run EPR systems.
Outside of work, Dennis is an
avid surf and deep‑sea fisherman and maintains a passion for heavyweight
training to stay fit and focused.
Terrence is a seasoned systems architect with more
than two decades of experience in electronics recycling, technology
integration, and process design. Originally trained as a design draughtsman on
the Sasol Wax project, he entered the e‑waste sector in 2003 and has since
become a specialist in developing local processing capability and technology‑driven
EPR solutions.
During his time at WeCare, Terrence led the
development of a bankable feasibility study for a South African e‑waste
processing plant, drawing on extensive insights from the Sims global recycling
network. His work included international site visits to study advanced
electronics and plastics processing systems.
At RecycleX, he imported and customised a high‑volume
e‑waste shredder for South African operating conditions, while also providing
local technical support for the system.
At ATS, Terrence applies his deep processing and
systems knowledge to the development and implementation of the DARE
traceability and tracking platform. He continues to drive producer‑specific
customisation of the DARE software and is currently working with Lee to
evaluate the integration of AI into the system. His technical expertise also
supports ATS producers in allocating EPR spend to local Tier 1 recyclers
building domestic processing capacity.
Outside of work, Terrence enjoys training, gaming, and
advancing his programming skills.
Sonja blends creative
expertise with hands‑on programme experience to support producers and
strengthen ATS’s multimedia presence. With a background in graphic design and
marketing for Sims, RecycleX, WeCare, and now ATS, she brings a refined visual
eye and a deep understanding of the recycling and EPR landscape.
She played a key role in the
rollout of the WeCare container programme, a proof‑of‑concept initiative
empowering previously disadvantaged participants, and now applies that insight
to ATS’s producer consultancy, particularly in shaping the inclusion of the
informal sector within the broader EPR system.
When she’s not guiding
producers through the world of EPR or crafting multimedia content, Sonja can be
found immersed in board games, graphic novels, good music, and quality time
with her pets..
Raised in
KwaZulu-Natal, Jason completed his tertiary education at Stellenbosch
University, where he obtained a degree in Environment and Development. Now
based in Cape Town, he has spent the past four years working within South
Africa’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) sector, gaining experience
across multiple parts of the EPR value chain.
His background
includes hands-on involvement on the recycling and operational side of EPR, as
well as advisory and consulting roles, including a year supporting a Producer
Responsibility Organisation (PRO). As part of ATS Consulting, Jason brings a
practical, compliance-focused perspective to EPR implementation and is eager to
see where this next chapter of his professional journey leads.
Outside of work, he
enjoys hiking, being outdoors, and staying active with tennis and padel.
Rob brings a rare mix of tech know‑how, people skills,
and “let’s‑get‑this‑done” energy to the ATS team. Before joining ATS, he
levelled up through roles like Regional Manager at BT Games, Asset Manager and
Asset Sales at WeCare, and ITAD Manager at RecycleX, building a toolkit of
communication, organisation, problem-solving, and decision-making superpowers
along the way.
At ATS, Rob is one of three Producer Integration
Consultants, using his IT background to help producers build strong, compliant
EPR plans. He keeps a close eye on monthly EPR performance, making sure targets
stay on track, and works with the national electronic recycling network to
ensure producers get their rightful recycled weights.
When he’s not guiding producers through the world of
EPR, Rob is happily immersed in board games, graphic novels, good music, and
quality time with his pets.
Lee
is a former Senior Systems and Network Architect at BT (British Telecom Global
Services) with more than 30 years of experience across virtualization, cloud,

Wade
completed a B Comm at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and qualified as a
Chartered Accountant (SA) in 1991 after serving his Articles at Deloitte.
He has
extensive experience leading finance teams across the manufacturing, retail,
logistics, distribution, paper and pulp, FMCG, hospitality and waste‑management
sectors.
His portfolio has also included IT, logistics, warehousing, and
production planning, and he maintains a strong commitment to staff development.
Over the past
three years, Wade served as Finance Manager at Recyclex, where he played a
central role in transitioning the company’s traditional recycling business
model into the ATS consulting‑driven EPR business model. Through this work he
developed deep, practical expertise in the complexities of EPR payments, cost
structures, and regulatory financial modelling. In addition to managing day‑to‑day
company finances, he now supports producer financial managers in designing
workable, sustainable financial models for producer‑owned EPR plans.
Wade joined
the group in 2022. He enjoys gaming, reading science fiction and fantasy.
Buddy is a three‑year‑old mixed‑breed professional
good boy who takes his role at the ATS office very seriously, mainly greeting
visitors, monitoring snack movements, and offering strategic emotional support
to producers who arrive looking like their EPR obligations have personally
wronged them.
Producers often walk through our doors tense,
overwhelmed, and convinced their EPR challenges are unsolvable. Buddy’s warm
welcome, tail‑wag diplomacy, and insistence on being patted immediately tend to
lower stress levels faster than any regulatory briefing ever could.
Once the humans have talked through their compliance
concerns and discovered that ATS actually does have a clear path
forward, they leave with lighter shoulders, practical solutions, and, thanks to
Buddy, a noticeably improved EPR outlook.
He accepts payment in treats.
